Department Information

Geography department was established in the year 1989. Presently, the college offers Three Year Integrated Bachelor of Arts programme with Geography and Hindi or Geography and English subjects along with the other options. The geography department also runs a Certificate Course in Remote Sensing, GIS and GNSS in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS),. This course is an online course and is conducted in the college using video conferencing. 22 students comprising of present students, some faculty members, alumni of the department and others are enrolled for this course.

The department has expertise in Geographical Information System (GIS), Geo-Spatial Technology and G-Governance. Faculty of the department, Dr. Sardar Patil has provided consultancy services to Grampanchayat of Panutre Village, Taluka-Panhala, Dist-Kolhapur for Cadastral Mapping of the village.

Also, the department actively promotes student research as a regular activity. Students are informed and promoted to participate in seminars/conferences related to the subject as well as to their interests. Students of geography have regularly presented research projects in the Avishkar research project presentation competition.

Dr. Patil has completed three Minor Research Projects with financial support from the UGC and the University of Mumbai. Total grant availed for these projects is Rs. 2.00 lac.
