THE PROCESS

The strategic plan of the institution consists of policy, programs and procedures. This plan reflects the vision and mission of the college into the activities carried on. The plan is prepared by the strategic plan committee which comprises governing body members, Hon. Principal of the college and IQAC committee. With number of discussion and deliberations a strategic plan is prepared in tune with the mission of the college and to fulfill the objectives set. The plan is the revised as per the needs and changing conditions.

The IQAC being a prime body of the college makes need assessment of the college and communicates the Hon. Principal regarding the infrastructure requirements, initiation of academic programs, research orientation, professional development of the staff, students’ welfare and development, prioritizing the development of academic ambiance and necessarily attuning the activities to the objectives of the institution.

The strategic planning committee had discussions about how to create the strategic plan. Students, parents, alumni, faculty, business leaders, and academics all provided feedback. The opinions and perceptions of experts from the governing council, academic council, and student council were sought. Also, feedback was obtained from alumni and students.

DETAIL ANALYSIS OF THE SIX THRUST AREAS:

Area 1: Upgradation of the college as an Autonomous College

The IDP committee proposed that ASP College, Devrukh short-term strategic goal be to
become an autonomous institution by 2020.

Area 2: An Innovative Academic System

Approach 1: Expert lectures under Visiting Faculty Programme

  • This facility is proposed to bring reputed scholars from reputed national and international institutions and industries to deliver lectures.
  • Use of online lectures of scholars from different spheres for the students for additional knowledge
  • The Edu sat facility will be strengthened for receiving and telecasting expert lecturesfrom other premier institutions

Approach 2: Conduct remedial classes to weak students.(2.2.1)

  • It is proposed to strengthen remedial classes to the weak students in such subjects.
  • The services of faculty, guest faculty, PG students, research students and experts from outside the institution will be utilized for the purpose.

Approach 3: Provide scholarships to attract talented students(5.1.1)

  • It is proposed to establish a corpus fund to offer attractive scholarships to meritorious students as well as for those coming from economically weaker sections.
  • The college is planning to support financially the post graduate level projects and dissertation.

Approach 4: Establish Educational Resource Centre.(4.3.4)

  • A digital media studio will be established for e-content generation.

Approach 5: Fostering Add-on courses.(1.3.2)

  • To offers add-on courses on diverse topics for the benefit of the students to enable them to acquire additional knowledge.
  • To motivate students effectively to choose Massive Open Online Courses, (MOOC) to acquire additional credits in the exams.

Approach 6: Industry institution nexus

  • A separate cell will be established to foster cooperation between industry and college
  • To provide internships and Apprenticeships for students in industries, which will help the students better for employment orientation.(5.2.1)
  • Inviting industrial experts on various Board of Studies to design and developed industry need based and employment oriented curriculum(1.1.2)
  • Inviting industrialists to deliver lecture and to dialogue with students for entrepreneurship.(3.3.1)
  • Boosting MOUs with industries of various department of college to conduct various programs or short term courses.(3.7.2)
  • To adopt small research projects related to local industries to foster communication and cooperation with them.(3.7.1)

Area 3: The Development of Human Resources and ability enhancement.

Approach 1: Improving employability of graduates.

Employability of outgoing graduates is matter of concern and to ponder upon it. Our students belong to rural and hilly area. Lack of professionalism, out migration due to social and economic deprivement and lack of skill oriented curriculums are some of the root causes for
unemployability. The college looks forward to resolve this issue through following steps,

For students:

  • Conduct special training programme for communication skills (read, write, speak and listen), functional mathematics.(5.1.3)
  • To provide counseling facility to develop positive attitude and to get directions for career development.(5.1.4)
  • To conduct various awareness programmes regarding civil services, military services and helping them to impart required skills for these jobs.(5.1.4)
  • To conducts various skill development courses through various departments in collaboration with government, semi-government and other institutions.(1.1.3)

  • To utilize the network of alumni to bring in more companies/ institutions for recruitment.

For staff:

  • To conduct workshops, seminars, training programs for professional development of teaching and non-teaching staff.(6.3.2)

Approach 2: Strengthen the facilities of the Career Guidance and Placement Cell

Through efforts such as ‘feel employable,’ our college’s Career Guidance Unit does a commendable job of placing students. It is suggested to equip the institution’s Career Counselling and Placement Cell with cutting-edge amenities. Facilities for group discussions, conference rooms, interview rooms, and a digital seminar room with audio and video conferencing capabilities will be built.(4.1.3),(4.3.4)

Approach 3: Increase the vocational content in the curriculum of UG programmes.

  • To establish vocational courses for specific trades and occupations(1.2.1)
  • To establish Finishing Schools which provide industry-relevant experience.
  • To communicative English Programs and activities.(5.1.3)
  • Supplemental skill development includes preserving flowers, mushrooms, squash, jam, and jelly.(1.3.4)
  • Establish a ‘Graduate Gateway Programme (GGP) to increase the employability for UG students.(5.1.4)

Approach 4: Utilizing the network of alumni to bring in more companies/ institutions for recruitment.

  • The services of alumni will be utilized for giving employment orientation to students and also for bringing more companies for recruitment.

Approach 5: Designing industry- oriented curriculum.

  • On obtaining the academic autonomy, the College is planning to design and implement a curriculum which will address the needs of the industry.(1.2.1)
  • Participation of industry will be utilized to frame a demand driven curriculum.
  • 1.2.1) Industrial visits will be promoted and students will be encouraged to undertake industry related projects.

Area 4: Research Excellence

Approach 1: To upgrade of SK Patil Centre for Research and Innovation:(3.3.1)

  • The main objective of the SK Patil centre is to organize, carry out, and evaluate the basic and applied research programmes of the College.
  • The Centre also assists the research community of the College by providing technical consultancy.
  • The center should facilitate multi-disciplinary research undertaken by the faculty.
  • The center should facilitate the outside researchers for their research work.
  • Establishing research centers for Ph.D students and encouraging teachers to become a recognized guide of University of Mumbai. (3.4.2)

Area 5: Social commitment(3.6.3) and Green practices(7.1.2)

Approach 1: Science popularization program.

The science centre will function as a facilitation centre for science popularization in the region and specifically in the Sangmeshwar taluka. The science departments of the college will organize various programs for the science students in the high schools and junior colleges in the vicinity for science education development. For example celebration of science day, science exhibitions, competitions, expert lectures, laboratory experiments, developing teaching aids and actual teaching in schools and colleges occasionally.(5.1.3)

Approach 2: Extension work.

This approach insists on various activities by various departments for social welfare.

  • Creating awareness about organic farming, carbon sequestration, ‘Devrai’ conservation, soil testing etc.
